According to a recent TechnoBuffalo article, the latest version of Adobe Photoshop, version CS6/64bit, is a ‘huge leap over the latest version of Elements’. The article goes on to say that:

This could lead to a big headache for Photoshop Experts , I think because Adobe told the community, that as they released CS Photo, they were also developing that for Elements, and now they are testing, the new version of Photoshop. I think that will change the status and the confusion. Perhaps they will release a successor of Photoshop and we could have Elements and Photoshop staring into a very capable cross-pros,
